Syracuse Chapter: Growing Bright Students and Emerging Professionals
The Syracuse Chapter of CSI is growing, and as we grow, we strive to become more diversified with the inclusion of college students and emerging professionals. In February, we will be inviting area college students and professors to a chapter construction education forum. We will educate people about the importance of education during college and continuing education after college. Our focus will be on educating people about the Construction Specifications Institute and what we do. We will offer tools to help students grow into bright emerging professionals.
I’m an emerging professional myself, and I understand what CSI has done for my career as an intern architect. I hold a Construction Documents Technologist certificate. The CDT exam is just one tool that will better prepare me for taking the Architecture Registration Exam in the near future. I have an advantage over my peers because I have a deeper understanding and appreciation for CSI, the Project Manual, specification writing, construction administration, and construction documentation and communication.
Attracting young students and emerging professionals is important to our chapter. It adds diversification and young blood to the organization. Students gain knowledge from professionals who mentor. The chapter gains new members who educate us on new technologies introduced at the college/university level. This benefits everyone involved as our architecture, engineering, and construction community grows in the twenty-first century. Let’s learn from one another and work together to make a difference.
The best of luck to all of you for another successful year.
Onward,
Kevin E. Phillips, Jr., CSI, CDT
